Now Hiring: Senior Tax Controversy Specialist Reports To: Tax Partners / Managing Partner

Required Credentials

Bachelor’s Degree

EA (Enrolled Agent) or Active CPA License

Minimum 5+ years of direct experience in IRS representation and tax controversy work

Key Responsibilities

Advocating for and representing clients before the IRS in audits, appeals, collections, and other tax controversy matters.

Prepare and respond to IRS notices, correspondence, and requests for information.

Develop and execute strategies for resolving tax disputes, including Offers in Compromise, Installment Agreements, and Penalty Abatements.

Conduct thorough reviews of client tax filings and financial records to support defense strategies.

Collaborate with internal tax teams during busy season for preparation and review of complex returns.

Maintain detailed documentation of case progress, communications, and outcomes.

Stay current on federal tax laws, IRS procedures, and regulatory changes.

Serve as a subject matter expert for internal staff and clients on tax controversy issues.

Skills & Knowledge

Deep understanding of IRS procedures, audit processes, and appeals.

Strong knowledge of individual, corporate, and partnership taxation.

Experience with tax resolution tools and portals (e.g., IRS e-Services, CAF, Practitioner Priority Service).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in drafting IRS correspondence.

Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.

High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive client matters.

Proficiency in tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Understanding how to effectively leverage the Taxpayer Advocate Service to support clients.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working in a public accounting firm or tax law firm.

Familiarity with federal and state-level tax controversy matters (especially Florida Department of Revenue).

Experience mentoring junior staff and interacting with a larger team.

Master’s degree in Accounting preferred.
