Position Summary The Purchasing Manager serves as the head of the Purchasing Department, providing strategic direction, leadership, and oversight to ensure the department effectively supports Mikuni’s OEM and production supply chain operations. This role is responsible for setting departmental policies and objectives, aligning purchasing strategies with company goals, and driving continuous improvement in supplier management, cost control, and operational performance.

The Purchasing Manager will lead, develop, and mentor the purchasing team, ensuring goals are met while fostering collaboration with internal stakeholders and Mikuni operations in Japan, Mexico, and other global partners.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy

Define the vision, policies, and long‑term goals for the Purchasing Department in alignment with company objectives.

Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and regularly monitor departmental progress toward targets.

Guide strategic planning to support production schedules, cost‑reduction initiatives, and supplier performance improvements.

Develop and maintain best practices for supplier management and global sourcing strategies.

Team Development & Management

Lead and mentor a team of purchasing professionals, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability for results.

Provide training, coaching, and professional development opportunities to build departmental capability.

Foster a collaborative and continuous improvement culture within the team.

Operational Oversight

Ensure sourcing strategies, supplier contracts, and purchasing activities align with company standards for cost, quality, and delivery.

Support new product launches and production changes by guiding the team in supplier sourcing and tooling procurement.

Oversee risk management efforts to prevent supply chain disruptions and ensure compliance with applicable trade regulations.

Departmental Improvement & Reporting

Evaluate and improve purchasing processes, systems, and supplier performance management.

Implement cost savings initiatives and data‑driven reporting for management review.

Provide senior management with regular updates on departmental performance, supplier relationships, and strategic opportunities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).

10+ years of progressive procurement experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role overseeing a purchasing team in OEM or Tier‑1 manufacturing.

Proven experience in departmental leadership, goal‑setting, and performance management.

Strong understanding of production supply chains, supplier negotiations, and contract management.

Experience collaborating with global suppliers, including Asia‑ and Mexico‑based manufacturing partners.

Proficiency with ERP systems (JDE EnterpriseOne) and MS Office; advanced Excel/Power Query skills a plus.

Knowledge of automotive/powersports manufacturing standards (IATF 16949, ISO 9001).

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Spanish and Japanese skills strongly desired.
