Responsibilities Howmet Aerospace has an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Engineer at our Hampton, VA location. This position will support IGT manufacturing by providing focused projects that will improve throughput, reduce inventory, and reduce operating expense. It will drive continuous improvement through the reduction of labor costs and the implementation of new or improved methods and equipment. The candidate must apply standard practices, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies, and take corrective action. Will document work, prepare technical notes/reports/documents, and establish customer contacts (internal & external) as required.

Conceives, evaluates, and implements Kaizen and other formal problem‑solving activities, cost‑reduction initiatives, and part/process improvement activities.

Provides general technical support—collects data and supports manufacturing needs.

Prepares quotations—develops material, scrap, and labor costs for cost modeling.

Develops and builds tooling—provides input based on customer specifications for BOMs, routings, and milestone plans; supplies manufacturing support fixtures and dies.

Supports process development—provides manufacturing support for prototypes, instructions, and data analysis.

Designs, builds, and procures equipment—troubleshoots, validates, and qualifies equipment.

Creates cell and standard work—conducts time studies and develops cell layout.

Reduces part scrap and improves yield—collects data and performs analysis.

Provides floor coverage and support—completes daily process walk‑throughs, collects data, and performs analysis.

Reduces labor and process time—analyzes shift labor efficiencies, conducts cost modeling, and implements tooling changes.

Qualifications

BS degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.

Legal authorization to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship available).

Experience in a manufacturing environment or lab environment.

Experience with Kaizen, continuous improvement, and formal problem‑solving.

Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, including SOP development.

Ability to perform and analyze time studies to develop standardized work and set labor standards.

Proficiency in creating capacity analysis tools that capture machine cycle times, workloads, and OEE.

Experience implementing improved manufacturing processes, including new equipment design, procurement, and project management.

Experience defining and implementing cell layout, plant layout, and ergonomically designed workstations.

Knowledge of export control regulations for commercial and/or military shipments.

Strong observation skills for non‑value‑add waste elimination and flow analysis.

Technical leadership experience with cross‑functional teams.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

Experience with CAD (2D and/or 3D).
