Job Description: Performs various routine or special chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic laboratory tests. Duties of a Medical Technologist may be specific to a particular area of the laboratory, such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, or the blood bank. Responsibilities
Productivity: Performs an acceptable productivity level without a significant error rate on a variety of medical technology procedures, including tests on cells and microorganisms in body fluids, examining growth patterns of bacteria and fungus in patient specimens and cultures, analyzing blood and other body fluids, and performing blood compatibility testing. Maintains a clean and safe laboratory work area and equipment; assists in care and maintenance of laboratory furnishings and equipment. Coordinates, plans, and utilizes time efficiently to prioritize and organize duties; maintains inventory of supplies to ensure efficient operations and minimize duplication of effort. Quality: Adheres to quality control and instrument check procedures; maintains accurate and complete records of daily activities; ensures compliance with policies and procedures, safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards. Ethical judgment: Applies ethical considerations with technical skill in line with hospital and laboratory guidelines. Policy and safety: Observes and adheres to departmental and hospital policies and procedures and follows safety, QA, and infection control standards. Customer Service: Presents a professional manner and performance in duties; demonstrates a humanistic attitude in patient interactions appropriate to age (pediatric, adolescent, geriatric) as applicable. Collaboration and Partnership: Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, pathologists, staff, and other stakeholders. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education – Bachelor’s Degree Training, temporary, or letter of pending permit issued by LSBME Licensure – Licensed in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist (CLS-G) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist – Specialist (CLS-S) with Registry in applicable specialty for department and position.
