Summary The

Supply Chain Manager (SCM Manager)

is responsible for overseeing and managing the company's overall supply chain and logistics strategy and operations in order to maximize efficiency and productivity. This role focuses on optimizing processes from procurement to delivery, including inventory management, warehousing, distribution, and supplier relationship management, to reduce costs, improve service levels, and ensure business continuity. The SCM Manager leads and develops the supply chain team and collaborates cross-functionally to achieve organizational goals.

Detailed Description

Strategy & Planning:

Develop and execute a robust, long-term supply chain strategy that aligns with the company's business objectives. Lead Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) to balance supply and demand.

Procurement & Sourcing:

Manage the strategic sourcing process, including contract negotiation, vendor selection, and performance monitoring to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and reliable supply of materials and services.

Logistics & Distribution:

Oversee domestic and international logistics, including freight, transportation, and warehousing. Optimize distribution networks to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of finished goods.

Inventory Management:

Implement and manage effective inventory control systems (e.g., ABC analysis, safety stock levels) to minimize obsolescence and carrying costs while meeting production and customer demand.

Performance & Metrics:

Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the supply chain (e.g., On-Time-In-Full (OTIF), inventory turnover, landed cost). Report on performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Leadership:

Recruit, train, mentor, and manage the supply chain and logistics team members, fostering a high-performance culture focused on execution and efficiency.

Risk Management:

Identify potential supply chain risks (e.g., geopolitical, natural disasters, supplier bankruptcy) and develop mitigation strategies and business continuity plans.

Technology & Systems:

Utilize and optimize Supply Chain Management (SCM) software, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and other relevant technology tools to improve planning and execution.

Knowledge/Skills

Deep understanding

of supply chain principles, including planning, sourcing, manufacturing, delivery, and returns.

Expertise

in negotiation, contracting, and supplier relationship management.

Proficiency

with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and specialized SCM software.

Strong analytical skills

with the ability to interpret complex data and apply statistical methods for forecasting and optimization.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills

to manage a team and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Process improvement mindset

(e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) for optimizing workflows and reducing waste.

Knowledge

of import/export regulations, customs procedures, and global trade compliance.

Physical Demands Primarily

sedentary

office work with extensive computer and phone use.

Ability to travel

(domestically and/or internationally) up to 10-25% of the time to visit suppliers, distribution centers, or company sites.

Occasional need to tour warehouse and manufacturing environments, which may require walking, standing, and adherence to safety protocols.

Typical Experience

Minimum of 6 years

of progressive experience in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, or Operations.

Minimum 3+ years

in a leadership or managerial role, responsible for direct reports and cross-functional project management.

Proven track record of

cost savings, process optimization,

and successful project implementation.

Typical Education

Bachelor's degree

in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field

required .

A

Master's degree

(e.g., MBA or MS in SCM) is often

preferred .

Professional certifications such as

APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM),

or equivalent are highly desirable.
