This role is a Contract to Hire role, located in Newtown, PA.
Reporting directly to the Director of Supply Chain & Operations Logistics Operations, the Supply Chain Materials Planner will play a critical role in driving operational efficiency and cost optimization across freight, excess & obsolete (E&O) inventory, and warehouse operations. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, data-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to contribute to strategic sourcing and logistics initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze freight invoices and shipping data to identify cost-saving opportunities.
Collaborate with logistics providers to negotiate rates and improve service levels.
Monitor carrier performance and recommend changes based on KPIs (on-time delivery, cost per shipment, etc.).
Support mode optimization and consolidation strategies to reduce transportation costs.
Inventory Management
Track and report on excess and obsolete inventory trends.
Partner with planning and procurement teams to develop mitigation strategies (e.g., rework, resale, donation).
Assist in root cause analysis for E&O drivers and implement corrective actions.
Maintain accurate inventory records and support cycle count processes.
Warehouse Efficiency
Support layout optimization and material flow improvements in the warehouse.
Assist in implementing Lean practices to reduce waste and improve throughput.
Monitor warehouse KPIs (e.g., pick accuracy, order cycle time) and recommend process enhancements.
Coordinate with 3PLs and internal teams to ensure smooth inbound/outbound operations.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field.
APICS certifications such as CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) or CPIM (Certified in Planning and Inventory Management) are highly desirable.
Experience
2–4 years of relevant experience in supply chain operations, logistics, or procurement.
Demonstrated success in freight cost analysis and carrier negotiations.
Managing excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory.
Driving warehouse process improvements and layout optimization.
Supporting ERP and Power BI-based planning and reporting workflows.
Technical Knowledge
ERP Systems : Proficiency in systems like Dynamics 365, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Epicor for inventory and procurement planning
Data Tools : Strong command of Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs), Power BI, and Salesforce for reporting and demand planning
Inventory Planning : Understanding of MRP, BOM structures, SKU-level planning, and lifecycle management
Integrated Planning : Familiarity with SIOP (Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning) or similar integrated planning processes, aligning demand, supply, and inventory planning to support business objectives.
Skills
Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret large datasets and translate insights into actionable strategies for cost reduction and efficiency gains.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration with planning, finance, and warehouse teams.
Problem Solving: Proactive in identifying root causes of inefficiencies and implementing corrective actions.
Project Management: Capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Lean/Continuous Improvement: Exposure to Lean Six Sigma or Kaizen methodologies is advantageous.
