DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL)
is a regional, integrated laboratory system providing services to the eight hospitals of Detroit Medical Center.
DMC University Laboratories includes Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, two rapid‑response hospital laboratories, Centralized Stat Lab, Centralized Blood Bank Lab, and a full‑service outreach infrastructure that serves the entire Southeast Michigan market.
Under general supervision, this position performs quantitative and qualitative laboratory tests on patient specimens according to standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
Responsibilities include analyzing test results, preparing samples for testing, maintaining records, preparing and determining validity of solutions, reagents, media, stains, and other materials, processing all types of laboratory specimens, reviewing and reporting lab results, and performing operational duties such as maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
The technologist serves as a resource for other laboratory personnel.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university or completion of an accredited medical technology program (or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489).
Prefer 6 months to 1 year of experience as a medical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory scientist in an acute care facility.
Registered or eligible to register with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS) within 12 months of hire.
Equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES, or AICE for non‑US trained personnel must be completed within 30 days of hire.
Licensure, as required by state, is also required.
Skills Required
Analytical ability to interpret and analyze test results.
Interpersonal skills to work effectively with all areas of the physician office.
Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate various laboratory equipment.
Visual acuity to closely examine specimens.
