Position Overview
The Personnel Commission announces an open recruitment for an Information Technology Department position. The role is 8 hours per day for 12 months, with one open position. Promotional candidates receive seniority points (.25 point per year of classified service up to 5 points). The position supports district-wide computer systems and networks comprising WAN and LAN infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Design, install, configure, and maintain district-wide computer system and network, including WAN and LAN.
Provide support for enterprise systems, server-based and networked systems.
Participate in planning, organization, and implementation of computer hardware, software, and networked systems activities.
Train and provide technical assistance to staff in using network technology and software.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment link problems related to data lines, cables, routers, and network operating systems.
Assist in development of maintenance programs, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with district objectives and resources.
Requirements / Qualifications Minimum of two years of college‑level training in computer science and network systems analysis/design; a Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field is highly desirable. At least two years of increasingly responsible, recent, and skilled work experience in the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of a company‑wide computer system and network is required.
Knowledge
Principles and practices used in the installation, design, configuration, and maintenance of computer networking equipment, including, but not limited to, servers, switches, routers, cabling, and interface cards.

Ability
Install, test and maintain Ethernet and fiber optic network cabling; install and troubleshoot computer software and hardware.
Monitor, modify and maintain network, data and voice systems.
Deploy and configure network equipment including, but not limited to, switches, routers, wireless, IP telephony, IP‑based security and A/V equipment.
Participate in planning, organization and implementation of activities and functions related to the design, installation, configuration and maintenance of computer hardware, software, wide area (WAN) and local area (LAN) networks, enterprise systems and other networked systems.
Train and provide technical assistance to staff in the use and care of network technology and software.
Identify, troubleshoot and resolve equipment link problems relating to data lines, cables, routers and network operating system.
Participate in development of maintenance programs, policies and procedures; assure compliance with established district objectives and resources.
Assist in the development of bid (i.e. RFP, RFQ, RFI) requirements, evaluating vendor responses to bids, and managing and supervising network based installation and implementation.
Drive a vehicle to conduct work.
Understand the organization and operation of the assigned office and the District in order to assume assigned responsibilities.
Read, interpret and apply concepts found in complex technical publications, manuals and other documents.
Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records.
Prepare clear and concise reports.
Perform accurate mathematical computations quickly.
Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
