Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Engineer at 120 Degreez, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and coordination of HVAC and mechanical systems for a wide range of building projects. You will work closely with architects, consultants, and other engineering disciplines to deliver energy‑efficient, cost‑effective, and code‑compliant systems.
Responsibilities Design & Planning
Develop detailed mechanical design concepts, load calculations, and equipment sizing for HVAC systems across multiple building types (commercial, multifamily, retail, life‑science, and industrial).
Prepare detailed drawings, schematics, and specifications in Revit and AutoCAD for mechanical systems in accordance with firm standards and applicable codes.
Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers, and plumbing designers to ensure coordinated MEP layouts and system integration.
Incorporate energy‑efficient, sustainable, and cost‑effective design principles consistent with Title 24 and CALGreen requirements.
System Analysis
Perform load calculations, thermal comfort evaluations, and energy modeling to optimize system performance.
Assess and integrate energy‑saving technologies such as VRF, DOAS, and renewable energy systems.
Support the development of mechanical system studies, value‑engineering analyses, and design alternatives for client review.
Technical Documentation
Prepare mechanical design documents, construction drawings, and specifications for permit and bid packages.
Develop technical reports, equipment schedules, and system narratives outlining design intent and performance criteria.
Ensure documentation adheres to California Mechanical Code, ASHRAE Standards, and project‑specific requirements.
Project Management & Coordination
Coordinate design efforts with other disciplines, contractors, and project stakeholders throughout all project phases.
Review submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings to confirm compliance with design intent and project specifications.
Participate in internal and client meetings, presenting design concepts and technical solutions.
Assist in project scheduling, cost estimation, and resource allocation for assigned tasks.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Ensure all mechanical designs meet code, safety, and quality standards.
Participate in internal QA/QC reviews to maintain technical accuracy and document consistency.
Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe system installations during construction.
Client Engagement & Collaboration
Serve as a technical resource for clients and team members, providing clear communication and responsive support.
Assist business development efforts by preparing proposal inputs, technical responses, and attending project interviews.
Professional Growth & Development
Stay current with emerging technologies, sustainable design practices, and California code updates.
Pursue continuing education, certifications, and licensure to advance professional growth within the firm.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
Minimum 48 years of mechanical design experience in building systems; MEP consulting experience strongly .
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM coordination tools.
Strong knowledge of California Mechanical Code, California Building Code, ASHRAE Standards, NFPA, and Title 24 Energy Standards.
Understanding of HVAC system types, air distribution, hydronic systems, and sustainable design practices.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
California PE license (or ability and motivation to obtain licensure).
LEED Accreditation or familiarity with green building certification programs is a plus.
