Security Safety Supervisor - Night Shift

New York Law School (NYLS), located in Tribeca, seeks a Security and Safety Supervisor for the night shift (11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.). The Security Supervisor reports to the Manager of Security and Life Safety and the Vice President of Security and Community Affairs, and will train, supervise, and lead a security team of 3–10 officers at our multi‑building campus during their duty cycle. Responsibilities

Enforce security, safety, and fire prevention guidelines while protecting law school and community property. Report security, safety, or maintenance deficiencies to appropriate personnel. Write detailed incident and security‑related reports. Communicate with law‑school personnel via handheld radio, email, and mobile technologies. Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly tests of security and life‑safety equipment. Maintain cleanliness and order at security posts and locker rooms. Respond to and resolve security and life‑safety incidents. Provide backup relief and assist other officers as needed. Act as incident commander for all school emergencies, delivering first aid or CPR when necessary. Assist law‑enforcement personnel within the limits of security authority. Serve as the on‑duty Fire Life Safety Director (FLSD) when required: monitor fire alarm systems, execute evacuation plans, conduct tests, update records, coordinate with fire‑safety teams, and train Building Evacuation Supervisors. Support the law school’s emergency preparedness activities, offering suggestions for operational improvements. Supervise security teams at multiple sites, ensuring uniformity and resolving personnel issues. Conduct security briefings, assign breaks, delegate responsibilities, and enforce departmental policies. Maintain roving patrols by foot inside and outside facilities. Investigate complaints of disturbance, accidents, infractions, and criminal activity, taking appropriate action. Review, analyze, and evaluate reports; assist staff in drafting accurate reports. Manage the daily work schedule, adjust for changes, and arrange replacement coverage. Submit weekly NYLS timecards and assist in security training programs. Administer disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Manager of Security and Life Safety. Advise staff on new or revised security policies and procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Security and Life Safety and the Vice President of Security and Community Affairs. Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university, or one year of relevant security, law‑enforcement, military, or emergency‑management experience plus 30 college credits. 8‑hour pre‑assignment certificate (New York State Division of Licensing Services). 16‑hour on‑the‑job certificate within 90 days of employment. Ability to obtain and maintain a NYS Security Guard License, First Aid and CPR/AED certification (within 6 months), Fire Life Safety Director Certificate of Fitness (1 year), and FDNY Fire Watch Certificate of Fitness (within 6 months). Proficiency with handheld radios, cellular phones, tablets, and Microsoft Office. Excellent interpersonal and customer‑service skills. Demonstrated ability to detect security and life‑safety problems and report appropriately. Strong analytical and organizational skills; multitask with many assignments. Clear written, spoken, and understand English for detailed reporting. Physical capability to respond quickly and stand, sit, or bend knees for extended periods. Flexibility to work outside regularly scheduled hours, including weekends and holidays. Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or two years of relevant security experience plus 60 college credits. New York State Security Guard License, NY State Peace Officer License, NYC Fire Life Safety Director Certificate of Fitness, NYC Fire Watch Certificate of Fitness, and First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Experience in public safety at a school or college. Experience supervising security staff and leading with minimal supervision. Knowledge of emergency management and incident command principles.
