Purpose of Position The Department of Chemistry at the University of North Dakota seeks a Teaching Assistant Professor. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track position contingent on availability of funding. The teaching load in year one will be 85% teaching and will have the possibility of going up in year 2 or beyond. The Chemistry Department is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences and offers an ACS-certified B.S. degree, B.S./M.S. and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.

Duties & Responsibilities The successful applicant will receive a contract with an approximate distribution of 85% teaching, and 15% service effort. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses in general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and electrochemistry, including on-campus (in-person) courses and online courses.

Advise and mentor undergraduate students.

Work collaboratively with other Chemistry Department faculty to achieve consistent and high-quality learning environments.

All faculty are expected to contribute to service within the department, college, university, and community. In particular, this position is expected to support managing the analytical instrumentation for both teaching and research.

Required Competencies

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students

Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students

Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Chemistry program.

Experience in using technology and ability to adopt new tools and current methods for both on-campus and online course delivery.

Ability to ensure implementation of safety guidelines.

Minimum Requirements

Ph.D. Degree in chemistry or related fields by August 15, 2026.

Teaching experience at the college level.

Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Demonstrated teaching and mentoring effectiveness

Experience in lecture and laboratory instruction

Experience in the implementation of safety guidelines

Experience in lab and analytical instrumentation management

Experience with the development and instruction of online courses

Demonstrated involvement in the scholarship of teaching
