We are currently seeking a
highly skilled and experienced Staff Accountant
to join their finance team—an opportunity to contribute to a powerful mission while advancing your career in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
Responsibilities
Review and analyze financial aspects of projects (government/foundation grants) from inception to completion.
Budgeting and tracking of project costs, comparing budget to actual costs, and identifying variances.
Financial data collection and analysis of project expenses and trends.
Lead monthly meetings with program management to review project budget vs. actuals, trends and projections.
Assist with month‑end close, financial reporting, contract billing, and revenue reconciliation.
Communicate with funders regarding accounts receivable, financial reporting, auditing, and invoicing.
Other special projects as needed.
Development of project budgets and forecasts to accurately track and manage costs. Identify and report cost variances.
Estimate costs for projects or services and forecast future expenses. Develop and maintain financial models, trend analysis, and other ad‑hoc reports to analyze and forecast current and future cost drivers to support strategic decisions.
Meet with program managers on a monthly basis to discuss contracts budget‑to‑actual, identifying variances and providing actionable insights. Collaborate with program managers to forecast expenses and track contract information.
Prepare detailed reports on cost analysis findings (projects’ costs, expenses, other). Offer creative alternatives to reduce costs and improve financial performance.
Provide data for RFP (Request for Proposal) solicitations as needed.
Qualifications
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
Solid understanding of financial concepts, budgeting, and forecasting.
Solid understanding of GAAP principles, nonprofit financial management, government contracts, and cost accounting.
Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (MS Office), G‑Suite, Oracle NetSuite or similar accounting enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
Outstanding presentation, reporting, and communications skills, drawing conclusions, and communicating results.
At least three to five years of experience working in a finance department team environment.
At least three to five years of experience with project cost accounting.
Experience working in the nonprofit space is a plus.
