Financial Operations Consultant at Selby Jennings Location : New York City

Client/Job Summary : Our client is a financial services firm that is looking for an experienced accounting leader to manage the operations of one of their most important expense lines in their financial reporting: compensation. This role combines technical expertise with team leadership and offers significant visibility to senior executives, including the CFO. The ideal candidate will have supervisory and accounting experience, as well as be analytical, process-oriented, and looks to drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a dedicated compensation accounting team, ensuring accuracy and efficiency across all processes.
Oversee monthly and quarterly calculations for bonuses, commissions, and equity plans, ensuring timely and precise reporting.
Review broker agreements and update compensation models to maintain compliance and accuracy.
Collaborate with stakeholders across finance, HR, and payroll to communicate bonus and equity details.
Manage journal entries for employee-related costs and maintain balance sheet integrity.
Drive budgeting and forecasting for compensation-related expenses.
Identify process gaps, strengthen internal controls, and champion automation and efficiency improvements.
Support audits and deliver reconciliations and documentation as needed.
Provide ad-hoc analysis and contribute to special projects that enhance financial operations.
Key Qualifications
4+ years of relevant experience in accounting.
2+ years of experience in a supervisory role (required).
Proficiency in Excel including pivot tables, VLOOKUP's, etc.
Proactive, detail-oriented, analytical, self-motivated, collaborative, and driven.
