Job Overview Position: Accountant IIS (payroll & leave accounting) in the Accounting Operations Section of the Finance Operations Division at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV).

Location: TxDMV Headquarters, 4000 Jackson Avenue, Austin, TX 78731. Telework may be available based on TxDMV operational needs.

Responsibilities

Perform entry-level accounting work related to the audit and processing of payroll and leave transactions.

Record, classify, examine, and verify financial records, documents, or reports.

Data entry into agency accounting systems, including CAPPS and USAS.

Audit payroll and leave documents for accuracy and compliance with policies, procedures, and state/federal statutes.

Perform routine reconciliations of employee payroll, related benefits, and leave balances.

Classify, code, and enter financial information into CAPPS, USAS, and TINS.

Maintain and administer electronic timekeeping records in CAPPS.

Provide effective and efficient customer service to agency employees and managers.

Interpret and articulate agency policy and procedures for payroll and leave.

Research, analyze, and coordinate corrections of time sheet or payroll calculation discrepancies.

Compile and distribute payroll or accounting reports and spreadsheets.

Verify and distribute warrants for payroll and vendors per agency and state requirements.

Maintain, scan, and secure files of employee payroll/leave and accounting documents; pull documents and download files.

Assist in developing and conducting specialized payroll and leave training programs.

Travel up to 5% of the time, including car travel, possible flying, and overnight stays.

Attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours per department policies and procedures.

Assist in training others and perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, management, or related field, plus one (1) year experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or general office administration.

Additional experience in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll processing, auditing, or other accounting‑related areas may substitute for education on a year‑per‑year basis.

Experience may be satisfied by full‑time experience or the prorated part‑time equivalent.

A valid Class "C" driver's license is required.

If not a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 90 days after moving to Texas.

A satisfactory driving record is required.
