Summary Position is located in the Imaging/Radiology Service at the W.G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center. Performs diagnostic ultrasound examination on multiple areas of the body, including abdomen, pelvis, transvaginal, chest, thyroid, breast, scrotum, and small parts. Conducts vascular studies (e.g., carotid, venous, renal artery, aortic aneurysm, ABI, venous insufficiency, portal‑systemic shunts) and breast procedures (biopsy, cyst aspiration).

Duties

Advises Radiologists of significant abnormalities that require immediate attention during patient examination.

Performs ultrasound examinations of the abdomen, neck, chest, extremities, and retroperitoneal space to aid diagnosis and treatment.

Conducts ABI or segmental pressure studies.

Assists radiologists with ultrasound‑guided procedures such as biopsies, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.

Develops and maintains patient preparation procedures and communicates them through written documents and phone calls.

Distributes findings and pertinent information to the interpreting radiologist.

Supports quality assurance activities, including use of phantoms and test tools to maintain equipment performance.

Follows all safety policies and participates in quality assurance activities as directed.

Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship.

Proficiency in written and spoken English.

No specific educational requirement; however, experience or credentials (e.g., ARDMS) are desirable at or above GS‑06.

Knowledge of advanced ultrasound procedures, regulatory requirements, and patient safety.

Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels.

Ability to manage and supervise employees.

Demonstrated staff development and training competence.

Education All education must be accredited by an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Provide transcripts if using education for qualification.
