Reporting to the Manager, Benefits, the Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting the day-to-day administration of our benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and other benefit programs, ensuring consistency with plan documents and provider contracts.
Supporting the Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) Benefits team, the Benefits Specialist provides benefit administration support to our employee population. With a strong focus on service, this role will interact with all levels of staff, helping employees navigate through BILH’s benefit programs and enrollment systems.
This is a hybrid role, working primarily remotely with a monthly in-office requirement at the BILH System Center located in Charlestown, MA. Additional on-site days may be required during the annual Open Enrollment period each Fall.
Job Description Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Support Senior Benefits staff in day-to-day benefits administration, including responding to employee inquiries through the use of our online ticket system in partnership with the BILH HR Service Center.
Uphold BILH policies, state and federal policies and laws, and protect PII/PHI during daily benefits administration.
Participate in New Employee Benefits Onboarding activities, including reviewing benefits information and required onboarding steps in Workday, communicating benefits information to new hires over email, and helping employees understand and elect benefits during their New Hire election period.
Research and resolve benefit enrollment errors, working closely with vendor contacts to ensure timely resolution of enrollment errors.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal BILH partners and external vendors.
Complete project-based work as assigned, including assisting in Annual Open Enrollment planning and execution, annual audits, and data entry into Workday.
Communicate Benefits Department process and policy updates to internal and external stakeholders.
Process and track benefits-related claims and invoices, including life insurance claims, premium billing, and others as needed.
Support the benefits department and perform related duties and projects as assigned.

Education Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Work Experience Required.
Licensure, Certification & Registration None.
Experience 2-3 years of related work experience with 1+ years of benefits administration. Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office applications, and HRIS databases.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Strong written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal, problem solving, customer service, and organizational skills. Knowledge of Benefits concepts, practices, policies, and laws.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills Workday experience preferred.

VP, Director, and Manager – to support daily activities of the Benefits Department to meet the overall goals of the Department and Beth Israel Lahey Health.
Benefits Colleagues – to collaborate while working to administer benefits and improve processes.
All Colleagues – to serve as a resource and represent BILH HR and Benefits.
Pay Range $28.00 - $30.00 per hour. This base hourly wage range is the organization’s reasonable and good faith expectation. Actual compensation may vary based on seniority, education, training, experience, certifications, geography, and other factors. Additional compensation may be earned through shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other permissible practices.
