Overview
DCI Donor Services Tennessee Donor Services (TDS) is seeking a Preservation Coordinator Team Lead for the East Tennessee Region to oversee surgical related activities related to allocation, distribution, surgical removal, and preservation of organs recovered for research and/or transplantation. The Preservation Lead coordinates the call schedule and provides oversight for orientation and ongoing training of staff regarding preservation. The East Tennessee role covers the Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Tri-Cities region. Key responsibilities
Assumes primary responsibility for the renal preservation process including pumping and pump transport, in accordance with company policy and UNOS policy. Works to remedy pump perfusion difficulties or challenges with the department manager. Coordinates the call schedule to ensure adequate coverage for the designated service area (DSA). Performs extensive on-call responsibilities to assist with donor recovery activities. Primary on-call responsibilities will occur in the assigned region; increased donor activity or staffing shortages may require on-call coverage outside the primary area. Coordinates and assists in the surgical recovery, preservation, packaging, and delivery of organs and specimens with transplant surgeons and/or organ recovery coordinators, research facilities, or coroner's offices in compliance with company policy and UNOS requirements. Serves as a resource for education, in-services, and review of staff competencies. Provides oversight for orientation and ongoing training of preservation staff. Collaborates with Hospital Development to provide in-services at donor hospitals related to surgical organ recovery. Assists with quality processes such as investigations, root cause analysis, process improvement, and PDSAs related to preservation. Participates in internal and external committees to improve organ utilization. May assist on any surgical recovery cases as needed. Coordinates and assists with fly outs. Coordinates and assists with organ allocation, including kidney and liver placement, distribution, and transportation of organs for transplantation and/or research in accordance with policy and UNOS requirements. Receives import organ offers and facilitates communication between host donor program and local transplant program (if applicable). Coordinates travel for transplant teams, organs for transplant and/or research, and specimens to laboratories, as appropriate, per policy and UNOS requirements. Responsible for materials management oversight of all related clinical supplies for organ recovery; maintains sterile supplies and donor equipment bags; maintains the organ clinical supply room; handles supplies per OSHA standards and policy; maintains readiness. Responsible for data collection, analysis and reporting for regulatory compliance in accordance with policy and UNOS standards. Assists with assigned projects and other duties related to clinical, hospital services, and public education activities; assists with organ-specific research projects. Responsible for regular review of relevant clinical policies and protocols to ensure current practice and regulatory compliance. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelors degree in a related field preferred. Three years OPO experience in an organ recovery or preservation role. Certified Scrub Tech, EMT, or RN/LVN preferred. Valid driver license required and ability to pass MVR underwriting requirements. Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications and basic data entry skills required.
