Position Summary The Wagner College Director of Athletics provides leadership and oversight for the university’s Division I intercollegiate athletic programs reporting to the Executive Vice President/Chief of Staff (EVP/CoS) and serves as a member of the President’s cabinet. The Director is responsible for leading athletic programs that encourage and support the development of scholar-athletes, as well as providing competitive platforms for teams and individuals competing in the Northeast Conference and beyond, while maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct and performance. The Athletics Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with all Federal, State, NCAA, conference, and university regulations, creating and managing departmental resources in a fiscally responsible manner, and sustaining a culture of excellence, learning, sportsmanship, professionalism, and respect at all levels. The Director engages collaboratively with campus leadership and administrative offices as appropriate on matters relating to athletic administration; scholar‑athlete recruitment, well‑being and retention; resource development and management; and publicity, communications, and media.

Key Duties

Provides leadership, administrative direction, and oversight for all athletic programs and activities.

Directs and supervises all aspects of the intercollegiate athletic programs, including facilities, schedules, budgets, student athlete well‑being, athlete eligibility, marketing, revenue generation, and transportation.

Adheres to and promulgates a culture of ethics, sportsmanship, professionalism, and respect through personal example and behavior.

Leads the creation, management, and fiscal accountability of the Athletics Department’s budget, ensuring that resources are allocated responsibly and in alignment with the College’s strategic priorities.

Collaboratively creates and executes a multi‑year athletics strategic plan to strengthen Wagner Athletics that expands the brand, maximizes student experience, partnerships and positions Wagner for future strategic scheduling and revenue generation.

Accountable for securing fundraising, sponsorships and other revenue generation; working with various offices on strategy, implementation and stewardship.

Working with the EVP/CoS, and other campus wide leaders on enhancing and expanding the College’s student success mission.

Supervises full and part‑time athletics staff, including responsibilities for hiring, separation, training, mentoring, and evaluation of coaches and athletics staff.

Provides equality of opportunity in men’s and women’s athletics, maintains program compliance with regulatory requirements, and coordinates the certification of academic and health eligibility for varsity athletes.

Ensures optimal integration and marketing of athletic programs among students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community by coordinating activities and developing strategies in consultation with other marketing, communications, and publicity operations of the university.

Facilitates athletic resource development and management in compliance with college procedures, and in cooperation with advancement and finance offices.

Performs other duties as may be assigned by the President and Executive Vice President/Chief of Staff of Wagner College.

Qualifications Baccalaureate degree required, advanced degree preferred, in addition to a minimum of five years of experience as a senior‑level athletic administrator. The candidate must demonstrate an understanding of university culture, and understanding of the role of athletics in promoting excellence within the college, a commitment to development of scholar‑athletes, and a demonstrated ability to lead a competitive intercollegiate sports program in the context of an academically rigorous environment.
