Job Description The NBCU Local Multiplatform team is seeking a strategic, data‑driven Social Media Director to expand the reach of our journalism and improve monetization across key social media platforms including Meta, TikTok, and YouTube. This role will play a pivotal role in our local newsrooms’ approach to transforming social journalism through short‑form video. The Director will influence both strategy and execution across a diverse and dynamic portfolio, ideating and delivering scalable strategies that enhance reach, relevance, revenue, and audience engagement. Fluency in both English and Spanish is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement holistic platform, partnership, content, and moderation strategies for Meta, TikTok, and YouTube in alignment with audience growth, engagement, and revenue goals.
Ensure short‑form video and platform‑first content are created in alignment with platform strategies designed to meet audience and revenue targets.
Create repeatable frameworks and toolkits that enable NBC and Telemundo local stations, as well as RSNs, to execute best‑in‑class social media strategies around key tentpoles, breaking news, daily news and beat coverage.
Translate editorial and business priorities into tailored strategies for each platform in English and Spanish.
Guide frameworks and best practices for content packaging decisions including titles, thumbnails, hashtags, and SEO optimization.
Lead trainings, workshops, and regular knowledge‑sharing sessions with newsroom social and editorial teams.
Set platform KPIs and collaborate with research team to build dashboards for continuous optimization.
Utilize analytics to track performance, identify trends, and proactively adjust strategies for impact.
Partner with editorial, marketing, and product teams to align multiplatform priorities.
Advocate for platform‑first thinking in newsroom workflows and content planning cycles.
Surface insights and share platform learnings across partner teams within NBC News and the NBCU family to build broader strategic alignment.
Act as admin for business portfolios of key platforms and ensure cybersecurity best practices are implemented across teams, working collaboratively with NBCU Cyber team and NBCU Local Tech Ops.
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in digital media, audience development, or social media strategy with a focus on YouTube and short‑form video.
Proven experience managing social strategies across Meta, TikTok, and YouTube, ideally within a news, media, or multiplatform environment.
Strong understanding of content trends, creator ecosystems, and algorithm dynamics on social video platforms.
Experience working with large, multi‑brand portfolios and creating systems that scale.
Demonstrated ability to build infrastructure, lead trainings, and manage organizational change.
Deep analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and apply it to strategy.
Familiarity with podcasts and how to grow their visibility across social platforms.
Proficient in English and Spanish preferred; Spanish‑language content and multicultural audiences is a plus.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of an organization.
Additional Requirements
Must be willing to work in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, or Miami.
Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
