The Civil Superintendent will oversee day-to-day field operations for large scale civil construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards. This role is responsible for managing crews, coordinating subcontractors, and maintaining effective communication with project stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical expertise in earthwork, grading, utilities, concrete, and other civil infrastructure disciplines.
Field Leadership & Operations
Supervise and direct field crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to project plans.
Review project drawings, specifications, and schedules to plan daily and weekly activities.
Coordinate material deliveries, equipment needs, and workforce requirements.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce safety policies, procedures, and site-specific requirements in compliance with OSHA and company standards.
Lead daily toolbox talks and site safety inspections.
Ensure all work is performed in compliance with regulatory and environmental guidelines.
Quality Control & Productivity
Monitor workmanship to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
Identify and resolve field issues promptly to prevent delays or rework.
Track production rates and adjust resources as needed to maintain schedule.
Communication & Reporting
Serve as the primary point of contact for field operations, communicating progress and challenges to the Project Manager.
Maintain daily logs, production reports, and site documentation.
Participate in project meetings and provide input on scheduling and constructability.
Education & Experience
5+ years of progressive experience in civil construction supervision, preferably in infrastructure, site development, or heavy civil projects.
Strong knowledge of grading, excavation, utilities, concrete work, and erosion control.
Experience managing crews and subcontractors on active construction sites.
Proven leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Certifications (Preferred)
OSHA 30-Hour Certification
First Aid/CPR Certification
Competent Person (Trenching & Excavation) Certification
