Job Title: Structural Analysis Engineer - ESS Location: San Francisco Bay area, CA Department: Energy Storage Systems Engineering Reports to: Manager, Mechanical Engineering Position Type: Full time About the Job Peak Energy is looking for a Staff Structural Analysis Engineer to lead aid the development of our gigawatt scale energy storge system. This person will be a key stakeholder in structural design decisions, from architecture to optimization to validation. They will work with internal design and manufacturing partners, along with external partners, to provide engineering trades and guidance. This person has strong fundamentals while bringing a practical and can-do attitude to the role.
Responsibilities Structural Analysis
Guide and inform Energy Storage System structural design
Define relevant loading conditions, analysis and validation strategy
Perform detailed static and dynamic structural analysis of systems and components, determining stress, strain, frequency response, and fatigue characteristics using first principles, hand calculations, and FEA.
Propose design modifications to enhance structural reliability and performance
Simulation and Modeling
Develop and validate simulation models for structural analysis
Utilize advanced computational tools and techniques, such as finite element analysis (FEA)
Testing and Validation
Design and oversee experimental tests to validate models and predictions
Work with test engineers to analyze and correlate test data, and to incorporate findings into simulation model and design improvements
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including development, manufacturing, and quality assurance
Present analysis results and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Drive and participate in a culture of rapid prototyping and testing
A great team spirit and get-it-done attitude. No job is too big or too small
Minimum Qualifications
Master's or PhD Bachelor's degree in field related to mechanical, civil, aerospace or structural engineering
2+ years of experience working with large scale structural and electrical systems
Proficiency in simulation software such as ABAQUS, ANSYS, or similar
Proficiency in pre-and-post processing software such as Hypermesh, ANSA, or similar
Experience with design and manufacturing of medium to high volume products
Experience with hands on testing and model validation
Eligible to work in the U.S.
Qualifications
Master's or PhD in field related to mechanical, civil, aerospace or structural engineering
Experience with transportation durability, random vibration, and road load analysis
Experience with fatigue analysis software such as nCode, fe-safe, or similar
Experience with seismic simulation
Experience work with HV switch gear
Experience working with large scale battery storage systems
The salary range for this role is $140,000 - $175,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills.
