Job Description Early Biologics Characterization- Protein Analytics group is seeking a highly motivated scientist with experience in a biopharmaceutical setting. The selected individual will join the Discovery Biologics group at our Company and will have exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills along with a solid background in life sciences. The successful candidate will play a key role in the characterization of protein-based therapeutics, supporting discovery and early development programs. This individual will be responsible for developing and applying state-of-the-art analytical techniques to assess protein identity, purity, structure, and stability such as SEC, HIC, CE-SDS, DSF, DLS, Buffer Exchange. The candidate will be expected to interface with other functional groups including in vitro display, molecular biology, and protein engineer functions. Good communication skills and the ability to present scientific data to multi-functional teams are critical.

This role will require an eagerness to learn and an ability to work with different teams and different equipment to operate a robust characterization platform. Your efforts will be a complement and core resource to existing capabilities and will serve to expand the team’s ability to interrogate biologics diversity to identify optimal leads. You will have the opportunity to apply your enthusiasm and technical skills as a member of Discovery Biologics - Boston to support and help drive multidisciplinary biotherapeutic discovery programs. This is a full-time, on-site position.

Responsibilities

Contribute to our Company's Discovery Biologics pipeline by generating high quality data for protein characterization including antigens, antibodies, and other fusions proteins.

Perform routine and advanced protein characterization using techniques such as HPLC/UPLC (SEC, IEX, RP), Capillary electrophoresis (CE-SDS, cIEF), LC‑MS.

Interpret and present analytical data to cross‑functional teams.

Collaborate closely with protein engineering, purification, and formulation teams to support candidate selection and optimization.

Follow and author technical reports, SOPs, and contribute to regulatory documentation as needed.

Maintain accurate and organized laboratory records in compliance with internal quality standards.

Serve as a functional area representative on program teams.

Promote the external reputation of our company’s Discovery Biologics organization.

Generate frequent characterization summary reports.

Troubleshoot automation methods and devices to maintain optimal high throughput protein analyses.

Qualifications and Experience

A minimum of a B.S. in a relevant field (e.g., protein sciences, biophysics, chemical or bioengineering, biochemistry, or related life sciences field) with additional training of 2 years of hands‑on industry experience, or a Master’s in Biochemistry or related discipline with 0‑1 years of experience.

Hands‑on experience with protein analytical techniques, especially chromatography‑based methods.

Familiarity with protein structure, post‑translational modifications, glycosylation.

Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.

Required Skills

Familiarity with biophysical techniques (SEC; HIC, DSF, DSC, etc.) and their inherent data management.

Familiarity with LC‑MS workflows and sample preparation.

Ability to multitask, time management, and prioritize activities.

Excellent attention to detail and record keeping in electronic lab notebooks.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Salary Range $96,100.00 – $151,200.00 (lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, government requirements, and business or organizational needs.
