We are hiring a Shop Manager for a full-service steel supply, processing, and fabrication company located near Nashville, TN. We’re on a mission to set the standard for excellence in steelwork, combining precision, innovation, and teamwork to deliver top-quality solutions to every client.
As the fabrication Shop Manager, you’ll lead a skilled, dynamic team in a 21,000-square-foot facility, overseeing all shop operations—from workflow planning and production efficiency to employee development and quality control. This is a hands‑on leadership role where your expertise and management skills will ensure every project meets our high standards while fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and innovation.
Responsibilities Lead and Inspire the Shop Team
Supervise and mentor shop employees, promoting a culture of safety, efficiency, and excellence.
Set performance expectations, provide guidance, and support career growth.
Build strong relationships across departments to maintain a positive, productive work environment.
Drive Operational Excellence
Plan and maintain a 2-4 week shop schedule, forecasting production needs and resources.
Implement and continuously improve workflow processes for maximum efficiency.
Oversee final quality checks, verify job packets, and ensure drawings meet production readiness.
Maintain all shop equipment, ensuring safe and proper operation.
Apply expertise in fabricating and welding structural components using MIG and TIG techniques.
Interpret blueprints, product drawings, and specifications to guide assembly and welding.
Provide guidance on part layout, alignment, and securing procedures using proper fixtures and equipment.
Ensure work meets structural and safety standards through quality checks and process oversight.
Direct the use and operation of fabrication equipment such as press brakes, shears, plasma cutters, lasers, and related tools.
Supervise finishing processes including chipping, grinding, and polishing welds to meet project specifications.
Maintain a safe, organized workspace and lead the team in solving fabrication challenges to meet project deadlines.
Manage Inventory and Quality
Oversee material inventory, procurement, and order tracking.
Maintain material certifications and documentation.
Collaborate with Engineering on quality assurance and production planning.
Requirements
Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a steel manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of steel manufacturing processes and equipment.
Ability to read product prints/drawings.
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and reliability.
At least 2 years’ experience as a production welder with MIG and TIG welding proficiency.
Manual dexterity and visual acuity; ability to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 50 lbs.
Willingness to work in a QA environment within tolerances and quality controls.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Must meet the physical demands of the role: standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting, climbing stairs.
Ability to use proper lifting techniques.
Manufacturing experience and pneumatic/air tool experience a plus.
Must pass pre‑employment tests including weld test, drug test, and background check.
Working knowledge of press brakes, hand brakes, plasma cutters, shears, benders, lasers, drill press, and water jets preferred.
Experience working in a QA/ISO‑compliant environment preferred.
Experienced forklift operator preferred.
Pay Rate: $31–$35 Per Hour.
