Summary/Objective We are seeking an experienced Inland Marine Underwriter in Jacksonville, FL, Orlando, FL, or Atlanta, GA, with technical expertise underwriting Builder’s Risk (ground up and renovation projects) to support the growth and profitability of our specialty commercial lines portfolio. This role requires deep technical expertise in underwriting a range of inland marine coverages, such as contractor’s equipment, installation floaters, and property-in-transit.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating both new and renewal business submissions, collaborating with underwriting and product teams, and maintaining underwriting discipline across standard and specialty markets. This is a key role for a senior‑level underwriter who thrives in a production‑oriented, high‑volume environment.

Essential Functions

Underwrite and evaluate new and renewal submissions for a variety of inland marine and Builder’s Risk accounts, including but not limited to:

Contractor’s Equipment

Installation Floaters

Property in Transit / Transportation

Mobile Medical and Diagnostic Equipment

Builder’s Risk (ground‑up, renovations, residential and commercial structures)

Warehousing and Equipment Storage Risks

Apply appropriate pricing, terms, and conditions based on risk characteristics, underwriting guidelines, and market dynamics. Assess risk factors using inspection reports, loss history, and third‑party data sources to support well‑informed underwriting decisions. Maintain strong working relationships with agents and distribution partners, supporting profitable new business growth while upholding risk selection standards. Partner with Product, Loss Control, and Underwriting Assistants to ensure accuracy and responsiveness throughout the underwriting process. Participate in the ongoing development of underwriting appetite documentation, workflows, and training resources related to Inland Marine and Builder’s Risk. Contribute to the training and mentoring of underwriting staff on inland marine fundamentals and best practices. Maintain awareness of industry trends, competitor strategies, and regulatory changes impacting the inland marine market. Actively drive new business production by prospecting within assigned agency territory, promoting underwriting appetite, and identifying growth opportunities. Conduct regular agency meetings—virtually and in person—to strengthen relationships, deliver training, and provide guidance on submission quality and product offerings.

Travel

Up to 30% travel required for agency visits, marketing events, and underwriting meetings within the assigned territory

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and at least 5 years’ experience in commercial underwriting.

Education and Experience

7+ years of commercial underwriting experience, with significant focus on Inland Marine and Builder’s Risk lines.

Strong working knowledge of ISO forms, proprietary inland marine coverages, and industry best practices.

Builder’s Risk experience should include familiarity with general contractors, project timelines, valuation approaches, and construction‑related exposures.

Proven success in a production underwriting role, managing agency relationships, and hitting growth targets.

Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, or related field.

Professional designations such as AMIM, CPCU, CIC, or ARM are highly valued.

Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to manage workload in a fast‑paced environment.

Experience working with underwriting systems such as Salesforce, Perceptive Concept, or AS400 is a plus.

Must be a collaborative team player with a solution‑focused mindset.

Strong business acumen and market awareness to identify opportunities and respond to competitive dynamics.
