Job Overview This is a full-time permanent role located in Reno, NV. The Low Voltage Technician II reports directly to the Lead Communications Technician.

Job Summary The Communications Technician II must be able to perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Fiber Network Technician will coordinate small groups of installers in the daily workload, ensuring adherence to company safety and quality standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities The Communications Technician II will install work‑area outlets on floor or wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks; mount face plates and surface‑mount boxes correctly; adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards). The role also includes building closets—mounting and installing backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware—installing grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required. The technician performs all IDC connections (e.g., terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels). Testing duties include continuity testing of horizontal and riser cable, using a volt‑ohmmeter, troubleshooting opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs; use of a tone set to identify active voice or data circuits. The Communications Technician II will assume responsibility for the effective performance of the crew, providing necessary training, coordinating personnel and timelines to complete projects, and fully completing all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, etc.). The role requires adherence to all company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations. Salary: Min USD $25.00/Yr. Max USD $30.00/Yr.

Qualifications Physical and Mental Requirements:

Must be self‑motivated, positive, professional, and able to develop and implement project process improvements. Must promote company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and partners. Must act as the company liaison for customer interface. Must possess proven problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, reading, writing, and oral presentation skills. Must be able to work at heights, off a ladder, and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs; see and distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals such as dial tones. Must be willing to travel within branch or regional territory as needed. Regular attendance is mandatory.

Tools:

Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves. Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, tone set, 6/8 position combi crimp tool.

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:

Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency. Minimum 2 years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field, with demonstrated supervisory ability. Proficiency with listed tools and ability to interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications, reports, and quality requirements. Must know universal communications color codes and meet company minimum driving standards.
