Description of Work We are currently looking for Driver License Examiners to serve the citizens of North Carolina. You will be responsible for administering eligibility tests, evaluating people applying for classified Driver License, Commercial Driver License, Learner’s permits and ID cards. Dealing with high volume of transactions, you will use your first-class customer service skills to confirm applicant's knowledge of NC Motor Vehicle laws, identification of road signs, checking vision and observing/evaluating driving skills by riding with the customer in their personal vehicle on a road test in all types of weather. You will serve as a public advisor to identify any possible health concerns with drivers, advise customers of adjunct service programs available, and ensure applicant data and court ordered information is entered accurately into the internal system for reporting.
You are the face of the DMV and serve an important role in reducing wait times and improving customer service. To ensure we meet our mission of providing for customers in other offices, flexibility to travel during the day and overnight on short notice may be required.
Related program experience for this position includes one or more of the following: customer service experience with diverse groups, experience providing detailed information to the public, experience working in settings that require interviewing individuals to gather information and/or working knowledge of DMV policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences
Experience explaining policy, procedure and/or laws to educate customers or the public.
Customer service experience (friendly, enthusiastic attitude who enjoys serving customers) with a diverse clientele.
Knowledge of basic computer software that includes database programs, Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly adapt to internal systems.
Work experience typing using a computer keyboard.
Additional Expectations
Experience with collection and disbursement of cash is helpful.
Ability to manage time efficiently to accomplish required tasks.
Special Requirement: Must have a valid class C North Carolina Driver License, with no more than 5 active points and no suspensions/revocations within the last 10 years on driver license.
Must attend, complete, and pass a certification training requiring overnight stay Monday-Friday for 2 weeks.
Salary Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC 08 $37,782 - $66,120.
Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
