The University Counseling Center is an integrated behavioral health clinic comprising 16 full‑time licensed staff counselors, four psychiatric nurse practitioners, a psychiatrist, and full operations and support staff. The Center provides individual, group, and crisis counseling, outreach, and prevention services to the university community.

Role Summary Provide mental health counseling for students and present outreach and educational programs to support the wellbeing of students, faculty, and staff. The position is a Staff Counselor role that includes individual and group counseling, occasional walk‑in/crisis services, outreach to campus groups, and participation in staff consultations and meetings.

60‑65% of the work week is spent providing individual and group counseling, including walk‑in/crisis services.

Occasionally provide outreach services and speak to groups and classes on campus.

Participate in weekly staff consultations/case staffings and bi‑weekly all‑staff meetings.

Chart and document using the electronic medical records system.

Telehealth training and credentialing is a plus.

Position may be shared with the COPE Clinic as needed.

Partner with other campus units such as University Health Services, Office of Student Support & Advocacy, and the William Magee Center for Alcohol and Other Drugs Prevention & Education.

Essential Functions

Provide professional mental health counseling to students in individual, group, and couples therapy.

Offer crisis intervention for students experiencing psychological emergencies.

Consult with academic and student affairs departments.

Assist with crisis prevention and adjustment issues after major life events.

Maintain confidential records.

Minimum Education & Experience

Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field from an accredited four‑year college or university.

Two (2) years of experience, including practicum or internship, related to the duties described.

Licensed in Mississippi to practice as LPC, P‑LPC, LMSW, or LCSW (must be licensed by date of hire).

Physical Requirements

May lift up to approximately 10 pounds.

Requires close vision; ability to speak and hear.

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms as needed.
