Database Administrator II

$35.66- $55.25Hourly / $74,172.80- $114,920.00Annually

$44.86- $71.20Hourly / $93,308.80- $148,096.00Annually

Database Administrator II Provides comprehensive technical services of installation, configuration, performance tuning, patching, backup, daily maintenance and administration for all MSD Oracle or SQL Server databases residing on UNIX, Linux and Windows platforms. Designs and implements new databases supporting third-party and in‑house applications. Provides technical support and database administration for the SAP, GIS and IPS systems, as well as enterprise spatial geodatabases and MSD custom written databases. Administers the maintenance/management of numerous miscellaneous platforms and operating systems including UNIX, LINUX, and Windows as needed to ensure database efficiency and integrity. May serve as project lead.

Database Administrator III Provides expert, comprehensive technical services of installation, configuration, performance tuning, patching, backup, daily maintenance, and administration for all MSD Oracle or SQL Server databases residing on UNIX, Linux, and Windows platforms. Directs the design and implementation of new databases supporting third-party and in‑house applications. Directs technical support and database administration for the SAP, GIS and IPS systems, as well as enterprise spatial geodatabases and MSD custom written databases. Leads and administers the maintenance/management of numerous miscellaneous platforms and operating systems including UNIX, Linux, and Windows as needed to ensure database efficiency and integrity. Serves as a project manager or team lead.

Essential Job Functions Database Administrator II

Provides high‑level, comprehensive technical services of installation, maintenance and administration for all MSD Oracle or SQL Server databases, including Enterprise Geodatabases, residing on UNIX, Linux, and Windows platforms. Performs full life cycle Oracle/SQL Server implementation, support, geodatabase replication, fail‑over and upgrade project completions. Tunes database for optimal performance. Monitors database statistics for capacity and performance. Responsible for the security of the database and its information. Plans, tests, and implements upgrades to the Oracle database system. Monitors database license utilization to ensure compliance. Implements backup/recovery procedures. Provides technical support and base administration for the SAP, GIS, and IPS systems, as well as third‑party and custom designed applications. Installs database and application server components. Monitors database system performance and capacity. Assists in troubleshooting database and application problems. Installs upgrades/patches for the applications to resolve problems or keep the system current. Installs/upgrades operating systems, products, and hardware. Performs system resource monitoring, database fail‑over, and back‑up/recovery procedures for UNIX, Linux, and Windows operating systems. Develops, implements, and enforces database security policies. Maintains development and test environments to allow for research and development of new database services and testing of new software versions. Researches current technology and industry trends to recommend server and database configurations. Supports Client/Server connectivity to Oracle and SQL Server database servers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary to the Work Database Administrator II

Knowledge of Oracle or SQL Server database architecture, configuration, and administration; knowledge of Oracle or SQL Server backup and recovery tools; knowledge of physical and logical database design; knowledge of table‑spaces, partitioning, and binary indexes for partitioned and non‑partitioned tables; knowledge of GIS database replication; knowledge of planning and executing disaster recovery plans; skill with Oracle or SQL Server database tools; skill in change control, helpdesk ticket system usage, and system documentation; skill in oral and written communication; ability to estimate storage; ability to operate a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite); ability to exercise judgment and discretion; ability to work in a team environment; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to work effectively under heavy, unpredictable surges in workload; ability to work 24 hour emergency response.

Database Administrator III

Knowledge of Oracle or SQL Server database architecture, configuration and administration; knowledge of physical and logical database design; skill with Oracle application tools; skill with table‑spaces, partitioning, and binary indexes for partitioned and non‑partitioned tables; skill with Oracle or SQL Server backup and recovery tools; skill in GIS database replication; skill in planning and executing database fail‑over and disaster recovery plans; skill with change control, helpdesk ticket system usage, and system documentation; skill in oral and written communication; ability to estimate storage; ability to operate a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite); ability to exercise judgment and discretion; ability to work in a team environment; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to work effectively under heavy, unpredictable surges in workload; ability to work 24 hour emergency response.

Minimum Requirements Database Administrator II

Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, GIS or a related field; four or more years of experience related to Oracle database administration; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits.

Database Administrator III

Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, GIS or a related field; ten or more years of experience related to Oracle or SQL Server database administration; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits. Master’s Degree in Computer Science or GIS preferred. PMP certification preferred.
