Regional Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist (EHS Assistant Manager)
Trinity's Engineering & EHS Workforce Solutions is seeking a qualified Regional Environmental, Health, & Safety Specialist or EHS Assistant Manager with manufacturing experience to work at our client site in the Greater San Antonio area. This role is open to direct hire or contract candidates with 5 or more years of experience. The ideal candidate will be safety-weighted with proficient environmental program management experience, including ISO 14001 environmental management systems. Automotive industry experience, specifically safety oversight of injection molding processes, is highly preferred. Spanish-speaking is a plus. Local candidates only. Job Summary The EH&S professional is responsible for ensuring our work sites are safe and compliant with all environmental and safety regulations and policies. Responsibilities include developing and implementing environmental and safety policies and procedures, managing the review and audit process of facilities and operations to maintain compliance with ISO 14001, OSHA and related regulations. This position also manages EHS reporting (internal and external), workers compensation, best practice standardization and compliance-related matters. It provides functional direction and guidance to EHS personnel at each plant. Main Duties and Responsibilities Ensure adherence to ISO 14001 standards and lead recertification audits. Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and standards including management and disposal of hazardous waste and materials. Implement compliance calendar items for the program. Identify, propose and implement improvements to the ISO 14001 program. Manage and maintain up-to-date documentation and reports including training records. Conduct regular meetings with the management team to inform on the status of the program and any open items. Health & Safety Foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. Develop and implement required health and safety programs. Identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate or eliminate risk. Conduct monthly H&S audits to ensure regulatory compliance and identify areas for improvement. Present findings with corrective and preventive actions to management and follow up on timely completion. Report progress weekly to the Plant Manager. Establish an incident recording and reporting process to inform management on safety incidents, maintaining updated records. Timely report, manage and follow up on workers’ compensation incidents/claims. Coordinate with medical providers and the insurance carrier to ensure prompt return to work. Conduct quarterly meetings with the workers compensation insurer for status and action plans to close active claims. Close incident reports by completing investigations and establishing corrective actions; follow up and report status weekly to the Plant Manager. Implement required employee training and maintain accurate training records, including PPE and OSHA-required training at hire and annually. Maintain Safety Committees, recruit members, conduct training, and perform audits. Serve as a first responder as needed and participate in quarterly plant-wide meetings to communicate EHS program status and key metrics. Stay current on changes in environmental and safety regulations and maintain strong knowledge of applicable regulations. Coordinate with PPE suppliers to ensure timely stocking and address PPE/janitorial supply issues. Interface with Toyota Safety and Security as needed. Support second and third shifts as required by business needs. Reporting and Compliance Collect and prepare information and documentation on safety and environmental incidents for KPI tracking, internal reporting (e.g., daily safety cross, SLT scorecard, monthly KPIs), and compliance reporting (e.g., OSHA 300 Log, 300A Form). Interface with regulatory bodies such as OSHA and EPA and respond to complaints and inspections as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, industrial engineering, or closely related field preferred. Experience Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience as Safety Coordinator, Specialist or Manager in multi-site manufacturing environments; automotive experience preferred. Deep understanding of EH&S regulations and standards; experience with ISO 14001. Experience in implementing and managing EHS programs, standards, and procedures. Strong training and coaching skills to guide employees on safety protocols. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations OSHA 30-hour General Industry card and OSHA #511 certificate. OSHA #501 Trainer for General Industry is a plus. Computer Skills Proficiency in safety management software and related tools, preferred. Mathematical Abilities Intermediate-advanced math skills. Analytical or Reasoning Abilities Strong analytical and planning skills with a focus on continuous improvement. Ability to follow written technical procedures and prepare policy/procedure documentation and reports. Communication Skills Ability to read, write, and speak English with strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with all levels and across cultures. Other Skills Excellent organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects. Self-starter with initiative and the ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve results. Passionate about creating a culture of EHS in the organization. Travel Approximately 5% travel to domestic and international locations may be required. Physical Requirements About 60% of the time on the shop floor; rest on administrative work at a computer and with office equipment. Must be able to lift 25 pounds individually and team lift 50 pounds. Must be able to perform this job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures and wear required PPE when needed.
