Position Summary Perform routine telecommunications cabling activities including job site preparation; creating cable pathways; installing twisted pair, fiber, and coax cable; terminating twisted pair, fiber, and coax cable; installing racks and other equipment in telecommunications closets; testing and certifying cable installations. May supervise and direct the work of a junior cabling technician.
Responsibilities
Install hardware systems such as cable trays, ladder racks, J‑hooks, and/or D‑rings to support telecommunications cable pulls.
Pull telecommunications cabling through various building architectures and buried conduit.
Implement firestopping techniques when appropriate.
Prepare telecommunications rooms (MDF and IDF) to function as central network nodes.
Organize cable runs and dress bundles neatly; label at both ends.
Install work area outlets to connect customer equipment.
Perform administrative duties including work orders, TeamDynamix, and as‑builts.
Test, certify, and troubleshoot copper, fiber optic, and wireless networks using appropriate test equipment.
Employ ANSI/EIA/TIA standards or manufacturer recommended techniques for terminations.
Supervise team members; direct all phases of cabling installation projects, including safety, labor, and material requirements.
Inform and update management and customers on progress, change orders, and required resources.
Maintain job documentation and report duties.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
BICSI Training Minimum 4 years’ experience in low voltage installation and repair.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Installation and termination of twisted pair cable.
Ability to climb ladders and perform overhead work.
Ability to operate hand tools.
Physical Demands Lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, operate hand and power tools, work in small spaces (crawlspaces, attics, maintenance holes).
