Join Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team in Texas and Florida. This role leads policy strategy in a dynamic region, focusing on technology policy and influencing legislation at the state level.
About the Job As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you’ll collaborate across regions, product areas, and functions to manage campaigns and initiatives that shape technology policy. You’ll advocate for Google, bringing external perspectives back to the company to inform direction and strategy, while developing the next‑generation technology for everyone.
As the lead Policy Strategist for Texas and Florida, you will shape technology policy in one of the most dynamic regions in the country. Your responsibilities include developing and executing sophisticated legislative and regulatory strategies on issues such as artificial intelligence, data privacy, content moderation, energy, competition, cybersecurity, and the future of work.
Google Client Services, part of the GAPP team, manages engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators, and third‑parties worldwide. You’ll work closely with Google leaders to identify key policy issues, listen to stakeholder viewpoints, and share company perspectives externally.
Salary and Benefits US base salary range: $221,000–$311,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits.
Responsibilities
Build relationships with governors’ offices, state legislators, third parties, and other stakeholders.
Analyze and interpret state legislation and regulations in Texas and Florida, focusing on emerging technology policy issues such as AI, data privacy, and energy.
Develop and execute comprehensive policy strategies to influence legislative and regulatory outcomes, including drafting legislative language, preparing expert testimony, and creating detailed policy briefs.
Represent Google as the lead policy expert in legislative hearings and industry roundtables.
Engage directly with elected officials, committee staff, and executive agency personnel to advocate for Google’s policy positions.
Advise internal teams on emerging state policies to ensure product and operational success, and build relationships with policy opinion formers and trade associations to support shared regulatory goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
14 years of experience working on technology policy issues within government, think tanks, public interest groups, law, or relevant industry associations.
5 years of experience in people management.
Experience working in government relations, government affairs, public policy, political campaigns, lobbying, outreach, or research in the State of Texas.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in state government or leading policy strategy for corporations or third‑party organizations.
Experience with staffing and managing executives, with excellent leadership and collaboration skills.
Ability to integrate public policy with business strategy and corporate development.
Track record of successful regulatory discussion and policy achievement within the Texas state legislature and executive branches.
