Overview
Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Pulmonary, Thoracic Surgery, Full-time, Days at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Responsibilities
Be a key member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, working with thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, and nursing staff to provide high-quality care across pulmonary, respiratory, and thoracic care programs.
Support programs including Smoking Cessation, Thoracic Surgery, and Pulmonary Care, managing both chronic and acute respiratory conditions.
Perform and manage procedures within scope and training, including thoracentesis, chest tube placement and management, and other pulmonary procedures as appropriate.
Manage own outpatient clinic template during clinic days; spend administrative time with surgeons, pulmonologists, smoking cessation providers, respiratory therapists, nurse coordinators, radiology and interventional teams reviewing patient data and communicating with multidisciplinary team members.
Provide care in an outpatient setting; schedule is 5 days x 8 hours with remote capabilities (to be determined); no nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call.
Essential Functions
Demonstrates clinical expertise and expands knowledge through patient care activities including diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems.
Responsible for health outcomes of an assigned patient population.
Collaborates with the physician and other health professionals in the area of clinical expertise.
Develops educational resources for patients, families and staff; mentors graduate students in advanced practice and patient care.
Participates in quality improvement and/or research relevant to the area of expertise.
Responsibilities
Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients’ health status; takes histories and performs physical examinations.
Provides direct clinical care and prescribes/orders medications and therapies; orders/interprets laboratory tests, x-rays and procedures per clinical privileges.
Evaluates patients for further health care and provides comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
Documents care and education in the medical record; refers to other disciplines as appropriate; collaborates with other disciplines and participates in team-based care.
Maintains professionalism and advocates for patients, families, coworkers, and the community.
Maintains licensure and continuing education; participates in committees or task forces as appropriate; supports patients first philosophy.
Qualifications
Required :
Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
Current license as an RN in Illinois; current APRN license in Illinois with applicable national certification (or PA license in Illinois); credentialed/privileged through the Medical Staff Office
CPR/BLS through the American Heart Association
No new grads
At least one (1) year of APP experience
Preferred :
Experience in Pulmonology/respiratory care or thoracic surgery
