Summary Provides strategic leadership and management for the Research and Development (R&D) Department. The Head of Development ensures that standard work and tactical plans for R&D activities are developed and results are achieved, consistent with customer expectations and site objectives. The role also supports plant operations, troubleshooting, process improvement, and drives best practices across the worldwide Corden R&D network.
Responsibilities
Manage R&D’s project portfolio, ensuring projects meet customer expectations for budget, schedule, and technical deliverables (route evaluation, process development, analytical development, and process characterization).
Conduct technical evaluations of new projects, assessing risks, innovation opportunities, required capabilities, cost analysis, and pricing strategy; communicate results to customers.
Align R&D capabilities with strategic goals; provide necessary technical resources and skills; interface with external technical sources where needed.
Identify skills development needs for the management team and recommend training.
Ensure compliance with GMP, regulatory, safety, and environmental regulations at all levels.
Leadership & Budget Responsibilities
Recruit, hire, train, and develop direct reports.
Plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; resolve complaints and problems.
Develop and manage the R&D Department budget; keep expenditures within budget limits.
Serve on the site’s Leadership Team, contributing to operational oversight.

Quality Responsibilities Corden Pharma follows Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and ICH Q7 regulations to ensure product quality. The Quality Management System is designed to deliver consistent, high‑quality products.
Qualifications Doctoral Degree (PhD) or equivalent in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field with 15+ years of experience in the Chemical/Pharmaceutical industry.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific journals, financial reports, and legal documents; respond to customer and regulatory inquiries; write speeches and publications; present to senior management and external audiences.
Mathematical Skills: Apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, frequency distribution, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability: Define problems; collect data; establish facts; draw valid conclusions; interpret complex technical instructions.
Certifications/Regulations: Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
