Principal/Senior Principal Design Software Engineer (Logging/Telemetry/Data handling)
Northrop Grumman is looking for an experienced software engineer focused on handling, storing, processing, and visualizing large amounts of data at the Segment/IPT level of complex systems. The role is based in the Greater Baltimore, MD area and requires a U.S. Government security clearance.
Responsibilities
Provide IPT-level software design and development for data handling, telemetry, and visualization systems.
Support the software design team lead and partner with engineering functions to progress and mature the segment.
Participate in critical engineering reviews and milestones such as SRR, SFR, SDR, PDR, CDR, SVR, and TRR.
Implement requirements and interface definitions in software, and perform code and unit testing.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in STEM from an accredited university (minimum 5 years of experience) or Master’s degree (minimum 3 years of experience).
Experience with object‑oriented analysis, software design principles, and design patterns.
Experience designing software to handle large amounts of structured or unstructured data.
Familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML/UML) and concepts.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong technical briefing skills.
U.S. citizen; current DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
Preferred Qualifications
Current active DoD TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
Full software lifecycle experience (specification, design, implementation, integration, debugging, and maintenance).
Knowledge of hardware/software integration and test planning.
Experience with data visualization and database tools such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Tableau, Grafana, and Prometheus.
Experience with development tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab, SonarQube, Python, C/C++.
Location & Travel Greater Baltimore, MD area with travel up to 10% of the time.
Compensation & Benefits Primary Level Salary: $110,300 – $165,500. Secondary Level Salary: $137,400 – $206,000. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, paid holidays, PTO, potential overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives for senior positions.
