Sr. Process Engineer in El Segundo
Energy Jobline ZR, El Segundo, California, United States, 90245
Job Description
At Arbor, we’re creating technology to power our lives while protecting the planet that sustains them. Our advanced power systems deliver clean, reliable baseload electricity with zero operating emissions—modular, fuel‑flexible, and engineered for the realities of today’s energy demand. At the core is a supercritical CO₂ turbine with integrated carbon capture, designed to bring carbon‑neutral power online quickly at meaningful scale. Our team includes aerospace engineers, combustion experts, and systems thinkers with a shared goal: to build technology worthy of the world we want to live in. While many of us began our journeys looking to the stars, we’re applying that expertise here at home to deliver dependable, emission‑free baseload power and a future of lasting abundance.
If you’re drawn to rigorous work with lasting impact, we’d love to hear from you. Come build what the future will run on.
We are seeking a Senior Process Engineer to develop and own process engineering deliverables for modular process units such as biomass gasification, oxy‑combustion, supercritical CO₂ power, CO₂ purification and liquefaction, and wastewater treatment. As a process engineer at a fast‑paced company developing novel technology, you’ll participate in a wide range of activities from conceptual studies through plant commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting. As projects move into the detailed engineering and construction phases, you will be responsible for managing EPC process engineering efforts to ensure successful project execution.
This Senior role also involves the establishment of internal documentation, standards, and work processes. The ideal candidate has experience across the project lifecycle from conceptual design through detailed design, commissioning, and operation. Hands‑on experience with construction or field troubleshooting is also highly valued.
Responsibilities
Design Basis
Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
Heat and Material Balances (HMBs)
Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
Line sizing and line lists
Equipment sizing and specification of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, control valves, etc.
Instrument specifications for common instrumentation like temperature, pressure, flow, and level
Pressure relief load calculations and relief valve sizing
Process hazard analysis (PHA) and HAZOPs
Conceptual and feasibility studies and supporting cost estimates
Control narrative development
Review of detailed piping and equipment design with multidisciplinary in‑house experts
Development of operating procedures
Alarms review
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering
8+ years of process engineering experience
Excellent understanding of chemical engineering principles and broad understanding of downstream discipline requirements (mechanical, civil, electrical, etc.)
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and deliver successful projects
Qualifications
Experience in a startup or agile development environment
Hands‑on field troubleshooting and/or operations experience
Experience in power, gasification, supercritical CO₂, or other high pressure (100+ bar) system design
Professional Engineer (PE) license
