Position Summary The Senior Engineering Manager – Test and Validation sets the strategy and leads execution for testing and validating our mechanical, electrical, and embedded hardware-software systems across bench, dyno, environmental, and vehicle test. You will build a high-performing team, mature labs and methods, and drive disciplined, data-backed validation so programs ship on time with proven durability, compliance, and customer confidence. This is a hands‑on role — some days may be setting the strategy and managing the team, others may require you to get hands on in test, data analysis, or report.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and grow validation engineers and technicians; set goals, standards, and career paths.
Define the validation strategy and coverage model – requirements, test cases, results – and own DVP&R quality.
Plan and operate labs and assets (benches, HIL, dynos, chambers, prototype, test vehicles); ensure readiness and utilization metrics.
Establish methods for repeatable testing, data capture, analysis, and dashboards – enforce traceability.
Run issue management and root cause through closure – communicate risk, status, and evidence‑based release readiness.
Align schedules and gates with Product, Systems, Hardware, Software, Quality, Supply Chain and key vendors and suppliers.
Coordinate cross-functional efforts and initiatives across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Service, Product, etc. to drive quality product launch through phase‑gate process.
Govern process and documentation – procedures, reports, compliance artifacts – and drive continuous improvement.
Manage budgets and capital planning for validation capability growth.
Lead project and team planning and defect capture in Jira.
Required Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Computer, Systems Engineering or related engineering field.
10+ years in product validation, test, and verification with 3-5+ years leading teams or complex programs.
Depth in DVP&R, requirements traceability, test design, and statistical analysis of results.
Knowledge of environmental and durability standards (e.g. ISO16750, IEC 60068, SAE J1455, IP Rating, UL, SAE) and developing test sequences around them.
Hands‑on experience with bench, vehicle, HIL/SIL testing and data acquisition, analysis, and report testing powertrain, software, and mechanical systems.
Proficiency with planning and defect tools – Jira – and audit‑ready documentation practices.
Strong program leadership: prioritization, risk management, stakeholder communication.
Qualifications
M.S. in engineering or related field.
Knowledge of Internal Combustion Engine fundamentals, systems, tuning & calibration, design, test, and components. Knowledge of Engine Management Systems.
Knowledge and background in engine and chassis dyno testing.
Background in mechanical and embedded system integration.
