Director of Finance and Administration Neighborhood House of Milwaukee (NH) invites applications for the role of Director of Finance and Administration. The position reports to the Executive Director and carries full responsibility for the agency’s financial operations, budgeting, payroll, grants, contracts, and overall administrative support for the organization.

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) oversees general accounting, financial management, budgeting, payroll, vendor contracts, and the supervision of administrative staff. The DFA provides timely and accurate financial information to senior leadership, the Board of Directors, and grant partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain the General Ledger, Chart of Accounts, and produce financial summaries and forecasts, including income and expense reports for agency leadership and grant agencies.

Prepare and present monthly financial statements and annual board reports; develop dashboards and visual analytics to support data‑driven decision making.

Manage the annual audit process, liaison with external auditors, the Finance Committee, and Board of Directors to ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit best practices.

Develop and implement multi‑year financial strategies with the Executive Director and Finance Committee, including scenario modeling, cash‑flow forecasting, and sustainability planning.

Coordinate grant budgeting, monitor renewal and reporting deadlines, and maintain positive relationships with funders.

Establish policies and procedures for cost accounting, grant management, cash management, accounts payable and receivable, billing, fixed‑asset accounting, and fixed‑asset tracking.

Oversee vendor and contractor relationships, including solicitation of bids, RFPs, contract negotiation, and financial compliance.

Execute and supervise payroll administration, timesheet review, Paychex processing, and payroll reporting.

Provide risk‑management oversight, internal controls, fraud assessment, and cyber‑risk mitigation in partnership with IT and insurance brokers.

Support general office duties and supervise the Accounting Assistant; provide financial policy guidance to all agency employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent; minimum of five years of management experience in a nonprofit environment.

Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, grant compliance, budget preparation, payroll systems, and vendor contract management.

Excellent analytical, presentation, and written communication skills; ability to explain complex financial information to diverse audiences.

Proficiency with financial software (e.g., Pro Care, Paychex) and Microsoft Office suite; ability to develop custom reports and dashboards.

Capacity to work collaboratively, maintain confidentiality, and respect diversity among staff, participants, and stakeholders.

Physical ability to perform regular office tasks, including sitting, standing, and handling moderate objects.
