Ultrasound Tech PRN – LCMC Health
Job Summary The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing all diagnostic procedures related to ultrasound, providing clinical services according to radiology/imaging practice standards, and demonstrating technical proficiency in producing high quality exams within the appropriate time for each procedure. The role also includes delivering educational presentations to physicians and technical staff.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
Perform complex diagnostic ultrasound techniques and produce images of internal organs with quality and proficiency. Observe and monitor patients’ vital signs and medical equipment. Review physician orders with the radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results. Demonstrate satisfactory working knowledge of PACS.
Administer sound patient‑care practices according to department and hospital policies to ensure the safety of patients.
Communicate effectively with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent, explain the procedure, answer questions to ease anxiety, and assure cooperation.
Maintain equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition. Inspect the suite, equipment, and accessories daily for hazards; troubleshoot malfunctions immediately; monitor supply levels; clean and disinfect equipment.
Perform quality‑control checks in accordance with policy requirements: uphold sterile technique, aseptic techniques, and body‑substance isolation policies.
Complete ancillary tasks to ensure efficient departmental operations, including accurately recording requisition information, performing routine clerical duties, and verifying all data sent to PACS/RIS.
Experience and Education Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or equivalent (including United States Armed Forces training).
Licenses and Certifications
Basic Life Support Health Care Provider – American Heart Association (required).
American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), Society of Medical Sonography (SMDS), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Registered (required).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of medical laboratory testing techniques.
Knowledge of standard phlebotomy, skin puncture techniques, and appropriate blood processing and handling procedures.
Ability to perform routine medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analysis.
Ability to accurately complete and maintain patient documents and records.
Ability to follow specific clinical protocols and communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Reporting Relationship
Formal supervision of employees: No.
Functional Demands Heavy physical requirements: exerting 50–100 pounds of force occasionally, 25–50 pounds frequently, or 10–20 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical demand exceeds medium work.
