Job Overview Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. Using elements of GameStop’s buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Assistant Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and a shared passion for gaming. This position supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.

Responsibilities

Provide best‑in‑class guest service: greet guests promptly, respond to questions and concerns quickly, assist with meeting their gaming needs, inform of special promotions, recommend additional items, apply all selling behaviors during every transaction, and thank every guest for shopping at GameStop.

Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that drive sales and repeat business.

Process guest purchases and return transactions accurately using the Point‑of‑Sale (POS) system.

Handle guest comments or questions via phone or in person; answer calls promptly and professionally; and, when appropriate, elevate issues to the Store Manager.

Promote GameStop’s guest benefits programs such as new‑title reservations, trade‑ins, and Pro Rewards.

Assist the Store Manager with setting guest‑service expectations, training associates, and ensuring performance alignment with company policies.

Oversee onboarding, training, and compliance for new and existing associates, including safety, inventory control, and financial protocol.

Schedule associates, supervise staffing levels, approve payroll, and verify all time‑worked is paid.

Maintain cleanliness, organization, and merchandising across the store, including restrooms and fixtures.

Fulfill and ship Omni‑Channel orders daily.

Execute inventory control, loss prevention, and bank deposit procedures.

Assist in meeting sales, profit, and shrink goals, and perform required administrative and operational duties.

Conduct daily inventory counts, restock merchandise, and reconcile financial totals in the POS system.

Report safety concerns, injuries, and hazardous situations promptly.

Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager’s absence.

Qualifications

Proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.

At least 18 years old.

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.

Minimum of 6 months retail management experience preferred.

Minimum of 2 years retail sales, guest service, or management experience preferred.

Knowledge of video games preferred.

Key Skills and Abilities

Outgoing personality with strong people skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication, including listening skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Proficiency with Point‑of‑Sale (POS) systems and basic mathematics.

Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

Availability for flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays; minimum 3 days per week.

Physical capability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, lift, and perform other job‑related tasks.

Benefits Full‑time store positions at GameStop are eligible for incentive programs, 401(k), paid time off, dental, vision, and health insurance. Positions may also be eligible for bonuses and other incentives.

Compensation $16.75 - $20.75 per hour
