Anthropology Associate (Part-time) Instructor Pool 2021 - 2022 MiraCosta College offers part‑time instructor assignments at all campus locations. The Department Chair reviews applications as vacancies become available. Assignments may include days, evenings, or weekends. Compensation follows the Associate (part‑time) Faculty Salary Schedule.

A resume/CV summarizing educational background and experience.

Transcripts for all required college degrees/coursework. Unofficial copies are acceptable if legible and indicating conferral.

Equivalency documentation if you do not hold the exact major(s) listed in the Minimum Qualifications.

Full satisfied California Community College credential in the appropriate discipline, if required.

TB test clearance, proof of U.S. work eligibility, and fingerprint clearance.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in anthropology or archaeology.

OR bachelor’s degree in anthropology/archaeology and a master’s in sociology, biological sciences, forensic sciences, genetics, or paleontology.

OR a valid appropriate California Community College Credential in the discipline.

OR equivalent (consult equivalency instructions).

AND sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications

Ability to plan, organize and teach courses using approved outlines and sound pedagogical methods.

Experience with educational technology such as Blackboard and online learning systems.

Continuing professional development and field‑work experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Plan and develop instructional materials—lectures, demonstrations, labs, projects—aligned with approved course outlines.

Teach courses using effective pedagogical methods, modify instruction to meet diverse student needs, and assess learning outcomes.

Provide prompt feedback, evaluate performance fairly, assign grades, and maintain student records.

Be available to students via email, phone, LMS, and office hours; refer students to appropriate resources.

Maintain accurate course, attendance, and confidential student records.

Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, policy reviews, and serve on campus committees.

Maintain academic competencies and certifications, and lead field trips as needed.

Other Duties

Remain current in the discipline and maintain licensure or certification as required.

Lead field trips and related events.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Ability, Physical & Emotional Effort, Working Conditions Knowledge of advanced theories, instructional methods, and educational technology; ability to schedule flexibly; primarily sedentary work with occasional light lifting; emotional stamina for diverse classroom settings.
