Purpose This position is responsible for classroom instruction and training in Family and Consumer Science education. The teacher may be assigned to teach any combination of the following: My Cuisine, Global Cuisine, Interior Design, Fashion Merchandising, Fashion-Fabric-Construction, and/or Child Development.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Plans and implements a program of study that utilizes district-approved curricular documents.
Is competent in teaching: cooking, sewing, interior design, and child development.
Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives to students.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques.
Meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students using data-driven decision-making.
Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of all students.
Collaborates with administrators, colleagues, and parents positively and productively.
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Performs other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

Qualifications Minimum: Bachelor’s degree; Missouri teacher certificate in Family and Consumer Sciences (K-Grade 12).

Technology:
Integrate technology into daily instruction; present information to students using a variety of media; access and present information from online sources in a manner that enhances instruction; instruct in buildings/classes where students are actively using 1-to-1 technology such as laptop computers, iPads, and other devices; lead students in creating and presenting multimedia projects when such assignments enhance student learning; use district software for recording grades and finding student information; readly utilize smart boards, projectors, and other instructional devices; adhere to all District policies and procedures regarding technology use.
Physical Demands Abilities required: Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously; move around the classroom to interact with and manage students/groups of students; read handwritten or printed material.
Attendance Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
