Stress Testing Scenario Design – Associate Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley in achieving its business goals by partnering with business units across the firm to realize efficient risk‑adjusted returns. FRM acts as a strategic advisor to the Board, protects the firm from exposure to losses, and oversees credit, market, liquidity, operational, model, and other risks.

Background on the Position The role resides within the Market Risk Department (MRD) of FRM. MRD is dedicated to governance and oversight of all market risk arising from the firm’s business activities. This position is part of MRD’s Market Risk Stress Testing team. It supports the design and reporting of stress‑testing scenarios—both regulatory and business‑as‑usual (BAU)—requiring knowledge of stress testing principles, stress PnL analysis, market risk, and macroeconomic theory.

Primary Responsibilities

Support internal BAU and regulatory stress‑loss reporting for Trading, including ad‑hoc stress PnL analysis.

Contribute to market risk stress‑loss appetite/limit calibration.

Participate in the design process of internal and regulatory stress‑testing scenarios, setting standards, effectively challenging scenario narratives, and capturing risk and stress loss drivers.

Maintain high documentation standards; liaise with stakeholders to satisfy internal and regulatory stress‑testing documentation requirements and governance.

Enhance the firm’s stress‑testing framework to ensure best‑in‑class capabilities.

Stay abreast of market trends, emerging risks, and macroeconomic themes.

Experience and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience.

Preferred background in Market Risk Management, Financial Markets, Economics, or Finance, with strong analytical skills.

Knowledge of trading products across asset classes (Equity, Rates, FX, Credit, Securitized Products, Commodities, etc.).

Strong writing and presentation skills to effectively convey scenario design themes and objectives.

Interpersonal and communication skills for liaising with senior management, market risk specialists, and analytical teams.

Desired project‑management, business‑process, governance, and documentation skills.

Desired experience with BCBS, bank capital CCAR, and other regulatory frameworks.

Compensation Expected base pay rates for this role range between $100,000 and $140,000 per year at the commencement of employment. Total compensation may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, and other Morgan Stanley‑sponsored benefit programs.
