The
Senior Payroll Analyst
will serve as a key support to the Senior Payroll Manager, overseeing payroll reconciliation, reporting, audits, taxes, garnishments, child support, and compliance activities. This role combines analytical expertise with hands‑on payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all payroll functions. The Senior Payroll Analyst will collaborate closely with HR, Accounting, and Finance teams to maintain alignment between payroll data and company financials. The ideal candidate has a strong payroll and accounting background, experience with union payroll, and the ability to provide insight and recommendations directly to senior management.
Responsibilities
Support the Senior Payroll Manager with weekly payroll processing for 4,000+ employees.
Perform payroll reconciliations, audits, and data reviews prior to general ledger postings.
Prepare, review, and analyze payroll reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Manage uncashed checks and coordinate resolution and reconciliation with Payroll and Accounting.
Generate and refine payroll and financial reports; proactively identify issues and recommend solutions.
Oversee processing of garnishments, levies, and child support orders in compliance with applicable laws and union requirements.
Handle escalated payroll issues and provide advanced analytical support as needed.
Partner with HR and Accounting teams to maintain accurate and consistent payroll data.
Contribute to payroll system upgrades, testing, and process improvement initiatives.
Maintain audit readiness and support internal and external audit requests.
Collaborate with senior management to provide analysis, recommendations, and updates on payroll matters.
Identify and implement process enhancements to improve payroll efficiency and compliance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.
5+ years of payroll experience, including at least 2 years in a senior or analytical capacity.
Strong understanding of payroll systems, garnishment processing, and child support compliance.
Experience with union payroll strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger reconciliation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas) and payroll software.
Payroll certification (CPP or FPC) a plus.
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work cross-functionally and present to senior management.
Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
