Position Summary
The TRIO Talent Search Program Coordinator supports the mission of OSSA/TRIO by providing direct services to TRIO eligible students (first generation and low income) to increase their academic success and postsecondary enrollment. The coordinator advises and mentors students, facilitates college and career readiness workshops, assists with financial aid and admissions processes, and maintains accurate records to ensure compliance with federal grant objectives. The position also builds and sustains strong partnerships with schools, families, and community organizations to enhance program impact, ensuring the Talent Search program meets objectives and upholds the integrity of federal funding.
Responsibilities
Coordinate recruitment, selection, orientation of project participants, outreach activities, and workshops.
Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date records and documentation of assessment and placement including database, academic records, contacts, exit information, and evaluations.
Provide assessment and prescribe participant services and plan activities in community agencies and target schools.
Arrange academic support services; provide individual, group, and career counseling sessions to meet participant needs; perform other counseling duties and support services as needed.
Participate in professional development; engage in and support OSSA, UGA, and external committees, presentations, and events; assist with new and emerging work projects.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in counseling or education, social work or related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Practical knowledge of first‑generation and low‑income students.
Effective communication across stakeholders: students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external entities.
Ability to work in a collaborative atmosphere.
Excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills.
Flexibility to work during peak program/summer hours, including nights and weekends.
Physical Demands
Some light lifting.
Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required as regular driving is an essential part of the job.
