NYT Cooking is looking for a social media editor with strong writing skills, sharp strategic instincts, an eye for visuals, and a love of food to join our temporary team. This role is based in New York City, requires in‑office attendance, and is a short‑term engagement. Responsibilities
Publish 3‑5 Instagram reels and TikToks daily. Receive and publish video files produced by other team members. Write recipe‑related text to appear in the video and captions. Add closed captions and music in‑app. Write and workshop headlines with an editor for approval. Select and crop photos for posts. Add text to posts using Figma. Write captions, receive edits, and schedule posts for publication. Join regular social promo meetings to brainstorm visuals and copy. Help grow our accounts by monitoring social trends and engaging with the audience. Demonstrate support for journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission. Report to the Assistant Editor, NYT Cooking. Adhere to the in‑office schedule (four days per week) with potential remote flexibility as guided by the department. Basic Qualifications
At least 3+ years as a social media editor at a brand or publication, managing Instagram and TikTok accounts. Experience with social scheduling platforms, graphic design tools like Figma, and database platforms such as AirTable. Preferred Qualifications
Strong editorial news judgment and knowledge of the digital food/cooking landscape. Clear, concise writing with a consistent voice and style. Compensation
