Founding Product Manager
Location: Boston, MA (preferred) or San Francisco, CA
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Head of Product & Engineering
About CivilGrid CivilGrid is a venture‑backed SaaS construction tech company building the “Google Maps for the Underground.” We disrupt a $4.7T US industry segment that desperately needs innovation, and we offer tremendous upside as we scale.
CivilGrid aggregates public and proprietary utility, geotechnical, environmental, and jurisdictional data. The consolidated information is sold via our collaborative SaaS mapping platform to engineers and developers who need it to make early‑stage decisions on real estate and infrastructure projects. Real‑time data access reduces labor and project delays, accelerates decision‑making and reduces project risk. Collaborative features ensure faster information flow and decisioning inside and outside the organization and better project insight retention over time.
Responsibilities
Own and prioritize the product roadmap across bugs, customer needs, and new features.
Drive clarity from messy inputs—bugs, feature requests, customer pain points—into clear specifications.
Partner closely with design & engineering on scoping, resourcing, and execution.
Lead customer discovery and research to validate what to build next.
Build lightweight processes, tools, and frameworks that will scale with CivilGrid as we grow.
Qualifications
Builder‑first mindset: Thrive in early‑stage environments (Series B or earlier) where things are messy and undefined.
Outcome‑focused: Prioritize why over what. Able to unpack complex customer pain points and tie them back to product outcomes.
Product taste: Have impeccable product taste and strive for simplicity.
Technical fluency: Comfortable working side‑by‑side with engineers; can read architecture diagrams, translate requirements, and spot gaps.
Execution machine: Know how to spec features clearly, scope tradeoffs, and drive to outcomes.
Strong communicator: Translate between technical and non‑technical language with ease.
Research‑driven: Lead discovery with customers and validate product directions before committing engineering resources.
Experience: 5+ years as a PM or similar, hands‑on execution, and excited to do the work yourself rather than only setting vision.
Perks
Be the first PM at CivilGrid—build the foundation of our product culture and processes.
Work directly with the CEO and Head of Product & Engineering on high‑impact product decisions.
Shape the roadmap of a product used by civil engineers, utilities, and infrastructure teams.
Fast‑moving, collaborative, small team where you’ll own meaningful outcomes from Day 1.
Opportunity to grow as the company scales—your role and scope will grow with us.
