This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
We are looking for an instrumentation engineer to lead design, development, and integration of cryogenic and non‑cryogenic fluid sensors on the MK2 Crew Lander. To be successful in this role, you should have demonstrated experience independently specifying, developing, procuring, and testing fluid instrumentation in an aerospace setting.
You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for the MK2 Crew Lander Fluid & Propulsion instrumentation
Scope, design, and execute development tests
Lead technical strategy and definition of the fluid instrumentation systems ensuring high quality technical decisions while meeting safety, cost, and schedule goals
Define and manage procurements in coordination with the supply chain organization
Provide instrumentation guidance to fluid engineers
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field with 5+ years of direct experience in fluid instrumentation
Experience developing custom fluid instrumentation for cryogenic and non-cryogenic applications
Experience independently leading engineering development projects in a professional setting
Hands‑on experience with the understanding of full product development lifecycle of electronics hardware.
Strong understanding of fluid systems and ability to develop piping and instrumentation (P&ID) diagrams
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills with ability to directly interface with external parties including government and commercial entities
Willingness to work on‑site with occasional travel
Preferred Qualifications
M.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field
Experience in launch vehicle level sensing instrumentation
Experience taking cryogenic instrumentation from development to space flight
Experience designing custom instrumentation from concept to production
Compensation CO applicants: $116,323.00 - $162,851.85; WA applicants: $126,898.00 - $177,656.85. Other site ranges may differ.
