Role Summary The Vice President of Cloud Engineering will oversee the strategy, development, and execution of our cloud platform’s technical roadmap. This people‑manager role reports to the GVP, Cloud & Production Engineering and leads a high‑performing engineering team to design, build, and maintain a highly reliable, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure. The incumbent will work across AWS, Azure, and GCP to create abstraction layers and drive engineering excellence.
Responsibilities
Define and execute the technical vision and strategy for the cloud platform, aligning with business objectives and customer needs.
Lead, mentor, and grow a diverse team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
Oversee the design and implementation of the cloud platform, including control planes, Kubernetes orchestration, networking, storage, and CI/CD pipelines.
Drive the development of abstraction layers that simplify and optimize interactions with underlying cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Ensure the platform is highly available, scalable, and secure, meeting enterprise‑grade performance and compliance requirements.
Partner with product management, operations, and other stakeholders to prioritize features, define requirements, and deliver customer‑centric solutions.
Stay ahead of industry trends, evaluating and integrating new technologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance platform capabilities.
Implement best practices for DevOps, monitoring, and incident response to ensure robust platform operations.
Manage engineering budgets, resources, and vendor relationships to optimize delivery and cost efficiency.
Qualifications
15+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Director, VP) overseeing cloud infrastructure or platform teams.
Experience building and scaling cloud platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP with knowledge of Kubernetes, control planes, networking, and storage systems.
Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure‑as‑code, and DevOps practices.
Experience leading the development of abstraction layers or platform services that simplify complex cloud environments.
Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, microservices, and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Familiarity with modern programming languages such as Python, Go, Java.
Expertise in networking (VPC, load balancing, DNS) and storage solutions (block, object, file). Knowledge of security best practices, compliance frameworks (SOC 2, GDPR), and observability tools.
Ability to drive cross‑functional collaboration and deliver complex projects on time and within budget.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred
Strong communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
Experience with multi‑cloud or hybrid cloud architectures.
Background in building platforms for SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS offerings.
Familiarity with emerging technologies such as serverless computing, AI/ML integration, or edge computing.
Salary & Benefits Base Salary*
– Washington, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York (including NYC metro): $279,800.00 – $407,350.00.
