The American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC) is a bipartisan, national coalition of more than 1,700 employers, business associations, hospitals, universities, and civic leaders working to advance sensible immigration reform that strengthens the economy and supports families.
Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy
Provide strategic financial leadership to ABIC’s executive team and Board, including scenario planning, cash flow forecasting, and reserve management.
Ensure compliance with nonprofit finance best practices across ABIC’s 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities, including time tracking, and lobbying reporting.
Develop and maintain multi‑year financial models to guide long‑term organizational sustainability.
Provide, prepare and present clear financial reporting and analysis to the Finance Committee, Audit Committee, Investment Committee, Board, and Senior Leadership Team to support fiduciary oversight and strategic decision‑making.
Accounting & Compliance
Perform and manage all day‑to‑day accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, journal entries, reconciliations, and month‑end closing.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards, tracking of restricted and unrestricted net assets. Prepare all workpapers and documentation for annual financial audits, and coordinate with external auditors, legal counsel, and regulatory agencies.
Work with outside audit firms to ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of 990s (C3, C4, and PAC entities as applicable).
Establish, monitor, and continuously improve internal control systems to prevent fraud, errors, and misallocations.
Cash Flow & Budgeting
Develop and monitor annual budgets in partnership with leadership and department heads.
Grants, Contracts & Reporting
Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of government, foundation, and restricted grants.
Oversee cost allocation for contracts and shared services between ABIC entities.
Provide leadership, coaching, and oversight to internal finance staff as well as outsourced bookkeeping or accounting firms. This role requires direct responsibility for day‑to‑day accounting activities and hands‑on financial management. Partner with Operations and Development teams to strengthen cross‑departmental financial systems.
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in nonprofit financial management, with at least five years at the Director or Controller level.
Demonstrated experience managing finances for both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations (mandatory).
Deep understanding of federal and state compliance requirements, including lobbying reporting and cost allocations across entities.
Strong audit leadership experience, including preparation of workpapers and audit management.
Proven expertise in cash flow forecasting and management for complex organizations.
Demonstrated experience with grants management, restricted funds, and federal funding compliance.
Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online Plus required, with experience in QuickBooks Online Advanced strongly preferred.
Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to present complex financial information to non‑financial stakeholders.
High ethical standards, strong judgment, and a commitment to transparency.
Preferred:
Experience working with a Super PAC or related political/advocacy finance structures.
Experience modernizing finance systems, processes, and reporting dashboards.
Experience with Bill.com, Expensify, and integrated financial systems.
