Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager

Role Overview Support current client development, new business development, and industry awareness with a focus on energy projects. Lead permitting and compliance for natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, renewables, and carbon sequestration projects regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and other federal, state, and local agencies.

Responsibilities

Manage large, complex projects (single or multi‑site) on time and within budget, overseeing scope, budgeting, resourcing, planning, field coordination, and health, safety, and risk management.

Act as client point of contact, leading an interdisciplinary team to support environmental impact assessment, regulatory permitting (baseline studies, facility siting and routing studies, land‑use planning, mitigation), and environmental compliance during construction, commissioning, start‑up, and operations.

Handle multiple projects concurrently, including major natural gas and LNG capital development projects across the United States, as well as hydrogen, renewables, and carbon sequestration facility projects.

Generate technical proposals, identify new leads, and participate in business development with existing clients; maintain client relationships to support repeat business.

Lead strategic meetings with regulatory agencies to address requirements such as state siting review applications/processes.

Engage with key regulatory agencies, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Marine Fisheries Service, Environmental Protection Agency, federal land management agencies, and State Historic Preservation Offices.

Provide technical, subject‑matter, or project‑management expertise on environmental critical issue assessments, impact assessment deliverables, and overall quality control review.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Studies, Planning, Geography, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related natural resources science field (or equivalent experience).

Prior consulting experience is required.

6+ years (10 years preferred) of environmental impact assessment and natural resources permitting experience on FERC‑regulated projects.

At least 5 years of experience managing permitting for large natural gas and LNG projects, including oversight of complex FERC applications.

Working knowledge of key natural resource regulations, including NEPA, Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act.

Experience with federal, state, and local permitting.

Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite.

Demonstrated ability to research and prepare concise and accurate technical documents.

Keen attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative project team.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including effective communication of complex technical knowledge to staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.

Compensation Annual base pay range: $129,195 – $152,500 (USD). Earnings may vary with education, experience, location, and performance. Eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus.
